Michel Faber, on the books he has written:

Faber.

“History proves that most writers get forgotten anyway,” he said. “That’s very likely to happen to my books, and if I’m extremely lucky, maybe one of my books will survive. The books I’ve written are my contenders, and whatever happens will happen. It’s enough.”

From this NYTs article that calls his book The Book of Strange Things multiple times instead of The Book of Strange NEW Things. Get it together, dears.

#BLAThoughtOfTheDay: Why Alan Moore went into comic books

With the news that comic book creator Alan Moore has written a prose novel that probably has more than ONE MILLION words, I can see why comic books were his original means of a successful outlet.

Jesus. A picture is worth a thousand words, dude. No need to actually USE words if your story is going to be that complicated (har, har). -BLA

The smell of armpits #BLAthoughtoftheday

We have all been told that, before the invention of deodorant, people simply “were used to the smell” and that it didn’t bother them.

But clearly it did, otherwise they wouldn’t have invented the thing to make them STOP smelling. Forget perfumes to cover it up. Humans hate themselves so badly that they willingly rub cancer under their arms now.

Here’s to living in the present time period.

Cats as non-mammals #BLAThoughtoftheday

Owls are the cats of birds. Snakes are the cats of reptiles. Catfish are the cats of fish.

That was my thought.

When guys complain about the all-female cast of the new Ghostbusters movie… #BLAThoughtoftheday

When guys complain about the new Ghostbusters all-female lineup, saying something like “Why can’t there be guys too?” it’s potentially because they will have no one to relate to — no one to fantasize about being up on the screen, because why would a man fantasize about being a woman? Why would would they lower themselves in such a way? Sure, it’s fine for a woman to fantasize about being a man. Of course she would, because women are so weak and powerless to begin with, right? Who would want to be a girl? Heck it’s even an insult!

There’s absolutely nothing for those men to relate to on the screen. (Which, if you think about it, shows how sad and limited their imagination is).

Hell, that type of guy would rather fantasize about being a dog from Homeward Bound or a pig from Babe than think about being a woman. Because that’s just uncomfortable.
